It can take 1 – 4 weeks to see some improvement, however, it takes 4 – 8 weeks to see the full benefits of Lexapro.
I also take lexapro and my doctor told me it may take up to 2 weeks for it to start working. After a month he increased my dosage from 5 mg to 10mg which is what I take now. I was fortunate enough to have never experienced adverse side effects with the medication though so you may have to wait longer. Ask at your next appointment.
im not sure, i got zoloft (25mg) prescribed to me about a week ago and as far as side effects go, i have had nausea, peeing more often (sorry if its tmi), which aren’t a big deal. But when i went and talked to the doctor (the one that prescribed it to me) explained to me all the minor side-effects and told me that the major side-effect was the medicine doing the opposite and making me more depressed and possibly cause me to become suicidal, but that it was very rare. However, i got the major side effect and the medicine made me worse….so my parents told me to stop taking it, and is having my sister keep an eye on me.
so be happy with whatever progress you make, and i hope it helps
This is something you should discuss with your doctor.
I’m not sure about how long it should take with antidepressants as they never worked for me but with mood stabilisers it can take a couple of weeks till the full effect kicks in. Generally speaking docs may prescribe a benzo to help a person starting off a medication though it’s unwise to take these on the long term and are also addictive.
Assuming that the anxiety is related to some kind of depressive disorder and the dose is correct then it could always be that it’s not the right drug, there are a lot of SSRI’s available and the really crap thing is drugs for mental health are a pain, it’s pretty much trial and error.
Course it could well be that you are on a lower dose and just need to up it. Upping it or titrating it up over the time frame you mention is pretty slow, you should be able to up it more over this time though as I am not a doctor nor do I know you or what side effects you are having any real verdict I come up with would be silly and ill conceived.
See or phone your doc to discuss your concerns and the possible benefits of putting the dose up.
If possible it is always better to wait it out another week to see if it gets better, perhaps see the doc about a drug to sort you out in the mean time like a benzo.
Benzos, long acting ones will sort out the anxiety.
Also, discuss with your doc about beta blockers, they are also prescribed off label for anxiety dissorders, they also have a better side effect profile (fewer side effects).
Good luck
