I also live in Chicago as you know right now is -13F. I also take Wellbutrin XL for SAD. Bell and Howell sell a much better lamp that simulates the sunlight with the lamp you are surrounded by the light from the lamp. It really helps. You need to google sun lamps and you will find the lamp. Menards and Home Depot also sell them. Good Luck to you. We will get through this winter. I don’t know if you have seen on the news in the last 131 years there have been only 13 days that the temp has been this low. The weather man just said that Aurora has a temp of -45F. Take care!!!
Try a light box (you can do a google search on them) they are known to help and are frequently paid for by your health insurance.
I know your pain….. I’m in Milwaukee and it effing cold here too. -23 when I got up thiss morning.
im in chicago too and yeah, its miserable…
the best you can do is open up your curtains, keep the house-well lit. get some plants in the house and even decorate it all summery. play cheery music, keep busy with friends too!
if you can, take a vacation down south
if not, you may want to get a space heater or something….
heck, i even put sunscreen on every now and then.. Just the smell of it brings back summer and makes me feel a tiny bit better.
It should warm up… in like a month or 2.. i remember one february here it got to 60. you never know…
You may want to go tanning too, i know its unhealthy but somebody told me all that UV light helps SAD
a light box helped me…
I go tan. It is bad for you but I actually wear a very light version of sun block when I do it. (like an spf 8 but I don’t burn easily). Once you go a few times they should let you up your time to like 20 minutes. This really helps. I usually take a nap in the "sun" and when I wake up I feel amazing. Just be careful not to burn. You don’t want to trade in depression for cancer!
Also increase your vitamin D intake. I have read that there are links between vitamin D deficiencies and seasonal depression. Here are a couple of sites with information on getting vitamin D.
