What is a good prescription medication for anxiety besides lorazepam?

My doctor prescribed lorazapem for my anxiety, but it doesn’t seem to be helping me. I have an appt. with a psychiatrist tomorrow, so I was going to ask him to prescribe something else.
Do you take medication for anxiety? What do you recommend?

I take Klonazepam as needed. There are also some antidepressants that can also help anxiety. I have heard Celexa is one of them. It really depends on your symptoms and the doctor’s judgment of what would be most helpful for your individual needs. Good Luck with your appointment.
My boyfriend takes lexapro. He has a bad case of anxiety and he seems to be doing pretty well on it. He’s taken a few others. I know he’s tried lorazapem too and didn’t do too well on it.
excersize is a good remedy.
Lorazepam never helped my anxiety either, I take a low dose antipsychotic which works well.
lorazepam, even if it helps you, you will eventually get tolerant to it over time….all the benzodiazepines like lorazepam are good for short term treatment of anxiety….. the most commonly other prescribed drugs are SSRIs and SNRIs such as Zoloft, Lexapro, Effexor…..but all of these can have significant side effects and undesirable withdrawal reactions. There is one antidepressant called Remeron, and it can help considerably with anxiety. At low doses it is extremely sedating….but at higher doses it is more stimulating….it decreases anxiety very efficiently, without any of the negative side effects of SSRIs like sexual dysfunction and nausea/apathy.
There is this one herbal remedy for anxiety called Kava Kava…it actually does work, very well, for pretty much all types of anxiety…i took it for a couple months. But low dose SSRIs can be very helpful with anxiety. Low dose seroquel, for some weird reason, helps me a whole lot with anxiety. It is a relatively weak anti psychotic. You could also ask about Pregabalin and Buspirone.
antidepressants and anti psychotics work for some. I take quetiapine, i still have anxiety but no where near as bad as before.
I went through ativan, klonopin, xanax and librium. I built up a tolerance to benzos so now I’m trying Buspar. Out of the benzos, klonopin worked best for me…
I’d recommend one of the SSRIs because they’re less likely to get you dependent. They’re generally used as anti depressants but have also shown great efficacy in use as anxiety medication.
I’d also recommend some non-med related things you could try including:
* Yoga
* Meditation
* High intensity exercise
