What is a good prescription drug to take for occasional anxiety?

I don’t want to take a pill every day since my anxiety is sporadic. I was prescribed Risperdal, which I can take just when I get anxious, but I know this drug increases one’s blood sugar and I am on the borderline of diabetes. Is there anything better available that I can take?

Risperdal? That drug is not prescribed for occasional anxiety. Normally a benzo is prescribed for that. Why would your doctor want to prescribe such a risky and side effect filled drug like risperdal, when there is valium or even an SSRI like Prozac. I don’t think risperdal is even approved for anxiety.
The preferred drug for occasional anxiety is a benzodiazepine and for more frequent anxiety is either a SSRI or Effexor.
There are other drugs, that are non-addictive, and would not affect your diabetes, but it would be best to speak with your doctor about it rather than for me to discuss it here.
I don’t recommend drugs for anxiety, I tried them before and if anything they made me worse although I do find that Magnesium tablets do make me relax a bit more (magnesium helps the nervous system) but I would check before you take it in case it has implications with your diabetes.
Talk to your doctor about your concerns.
There are many different drugs.
Xanax is a common one.
Prozac. just to name 2, but Talk to your doctor, they will know your medical history.
some chill music, incense and a cat..?
YOU CAN OCCASIONALLY TAKE LORAZEPAM WHEN THIS HAPPENS BUT THEY ARE EXTREMELY ADDICTING.REGULAR USE IF SSRI DRUGS LIKE PROZAC OR LUVOX WILL BE BETTER I THINK.
It’s best to ask your doc – I’m surprised he gave this to you knowing your medical history. If he did, he must have thought it was the best one for you. Some of those meds can be addicting, so docs have to be careful.
