I have two children with this...both take antidepressants, one a very low dose, the other a bit higher. The younger one who has the lower dose is doing very well with no other intervention except the Prozac (but he must use a specific generic manufacturer or it does not work! quirky!!)
My other son we have on a different antidepressant, and he is still rather anxious. It is a challenge for him to want to go out to any place where there will be a crowd, and school is overwhelming too. The school, after much pushing, has offered an alternative program that is much smaller and off site rather than a special ed route.
Trust yourself....if you feel like you are more anxious than you ought to be, it is likely that you are figuring it out. I have been taught by the doctors that if alcoholism runs in your family, then depression and anxiety are also likely to run in your family because there is a brain chemical connection between them. Luckily, you are smart enough to be seeking support early and we live in a time where there is a lot of good science to help.
