For me, Zoloft had fewer (well, at least less intense) side effects than Lexapro. Both caused sexual problems (same with Celexa...another SSRI closely related chemically to Lexapro). The actual difference bewteen Z and L is the chemical make up. Sometimes one SSRI will work well for a person when another SSI has not been effective or has not been well tolerated. Sometimes another class of meds is the way to go.

What do you mean when you say Zoloft was too strong?

Remember that the same medication does not necessarily work the same in all people.

I took Zoloft years ago and the worst of it was I had no libido what so ever. Also I was diagnosed incorrectly as having major depression.

I take Lexapro now and the worst side effect seems to be some weight gain. I feel the Lexapro works better too.

That said, I am bipolar and antidepressants have a different affect for bipolars. When on Zoloft it was the only med I was taking and I was thrown manic so I stopped taking it.

Now I have been diagnosed correctly and Lexapro is one of several meds I take.

Most off all listen to your doctor and give him all your symptoms whether you think they are important or not.

Hope this helps.

i definitely think lexapro is better with side effects than zoloft. other popular one's are paxil, effexor, wellbutruin and prozac. but lexapro is the best i think with sexual side effects and not making u dizzy at all or the least dizzy at least. some people do like wellbutruin too a lot but don't take that one if u have epilepsy. but def lexapro over zoloft.
