I’m sure some people think that if someone has a panic disorder they shouldn’t upset them at all, should tiptoe around them, some people may not even want to be around the person because they think they’ll have a panic attack all the time everywhere and embarrass them.
well in the old days people thought that it was the devil possessing the person who gets the anxiety attack… man ppl were rlly paranoid then…
As a counselor who works with people with anxiety disorders, several of the recurring themes that I have seen:
1. I have the medication, why do I need counseling?
2. Is there any help out there for me?
3. I am alone and there is no one in the world that feels like me.
4. If I have a panic attack everyone is going to look at me.
5. Marijuana is an excellent source of relief for my panic and it is legal in California!
> You finally snapped. You’re going crazy.
> You have lost control of your mind. It’s all over, now. Your sanity / life is slipping away.
> You can die from anxiety. You need to be heavily medicated.
> You’re having a heart attack.
> It’s a chemical imbalance, like schizophrenia.
> You need drugs to treat, not diet, exercise, affirmations & corrective thinking.
> You will always have them, forever
> You’re different for having them
> You need to be put in an asylum.
> No one wants to help you, except people who want to put you away.
> You’re stuck like this.
> There are no books on the subject, or if there are, they’re full of techno-babble.
