I know i have anxiety and depression even though I have never been actually diagnosed. I lost my mom when i was 13 yo and after had some major changes in life. I am now in my 20′s, married, with a good job but I still suffer from depression. Some days I get really in the dumps like when my husband and I disagree. Just wondering how other people deal with these problems with out taken meds.

Hi redrose,
it may been triggered when you were 13 and you’ve managed to keep on top of it day to day but when things don’t go right it can loom its ugly head, you may have bad days where you cry or feel tired and low and you just can’t pull yourself out of it or control your emotions. \you may have less motivation or enjoyment in doing usual things or hobbies and have poor concentration or memory. These are all symptoms of depression. You are right mild forms don’t always need medication but if it has been lingering on in the background it may be worth considering it-most meds are non addcitive and non sedating and they do work!
Other alternatives are
1. Exercise-highly therapeutic and releases bodies own natural serotonin boosting energy levels and mood
2. Talking-confide in a friend, your husband or see a counsellor, you may want to consider bereavement counselling if you never really got over your mum
3. Herbal treatments like st johns wort, i don’t know if its available in the usa but there are studies to show it is as effective as the modern antidepressants, beware though it interacts with the contraceptive pill
Hope this has helped, take care
you should really talk to someone about it. i was diagnosed with depression when i was in high school and have probs with anxiety as well. little arguments and disagreements with my boyfriend, however small, would mess up my entire week. talk to your husband about it. and if gets to the point where its difficult to function, as it often can, you should try to seek professional help, like a counselor who can talk with you and help you find ways to combat those feelings. medicine can be a huge help too so i wouldn’t rule it out right away. good luck
If you want someone to talk to you can email me, sometimes its easier to talk to someone you dont know a_caring_ear@rocketmail.com

Natural techniques are very important to learn because they create a longterm strategy for dealing with anxiety & depression. You never want to depend on a pill to make everything alright. Although I am not against conventional medication for anxiety related conditions, knowing natural strategies for tackling these problems is always a better alternative.
Best of Luck to you. Keep a positive mindset and the rest will follow.
