I am trying to find a new psychiatrist but after so many bad experiences I don’t trust them and I feel like picking a psychiatrist is just going to be like throwing a dart at a board and I don’t know who I’m going to get. How should I go about finding one and what if they’re bad? I don’t have insurance or a ton of money to keep trying different ones if they’re not a good fit. Any suggestions for pre-screening them?

I am a 17 year old high school graduate, and I am currently looking for employment to help pay for college in the fall. However, I have severe social anxiety disorders, and treatments involving counseling or medications have not been effective.
My biggest issue is that I cannot handle money; therefore, I cannot deal with interactions in which I am working a cash register. I am able to have social interactions with many people, but I prefer to be in settings in which I am either alone or with SMALL groups of people.

Any ideas? Are online surveys and such reliable?

Okay, so from what I can tell from doing all sorts of research and such, I think I have GAD. I however don’t have insurance at the moment and am wondering if there are any methods other than prescription drugs and psychiatric help? Like home methods that may not cure it, but at least help control the mind and make it easier to sleep at night.

Please don’t tell me to go to the shrink, because I am going to as soon as I have the money. No stupid answers please. I really appreciate any help that you guys can give me!

How can a teenager with social anxiety make money?

I’m fifteen years old, almost sixteen. I need a job to pay for a variety of expenses that teenagers have (food, clothes, books, etc). I have barely any money. However, I’m diagnosed with mild depression and anxiety as well as pretty bad social anxiety disorder. This makes applying for a job a pretty scary experience for me, and interacting socially with customers could be difficult for me. So, is there any way I could make money without much social interaction?

I would like to have a Psychiatric evaluation and maybe continue counseling if needed for some problems I’ve been having that I can’t seem to resolve on my own, but I have no money, and no medical insurance. I really feel that it’s something I should do to better my life and help me become a more functioning member of society. I just want to know what paths there are for me to take if any at all to get this moving.

I have a friend who is a massage therapist. He is really struggling. Most of the places where he can find work just take most of the money. Any ideas?

Would you be interested in finding if there is a relationship between paternal age and autism currently in the US? What specific questions do you want answered? Do you want pre-natal testing worked on?
Dear SpecEdtch,
. We need to get the data. You know how horrible the situation is for these kids and yet people keep ignoring the father’s age issue. It is not fair to to be so cavalier about the risks of later fathering because the parents are not the ones who have such agonizing lives. We now know that sperm mutate. If guys want to become fathers late I think they should banks their semen in their 20s. I hope you speak out, because you know a lot about the realities. I wish you the best in your work.
Maybe you could write a book about your experience because someone has to tell it like it is. It is not to make anyone feel guilty but to make people aware of reality.
Dear basketcase

Thank you, it is very exciting. In a 1980 study of autism in Sweden 34 was the mean age of the fathers and at that time this mean age was much older than the fathers is the non -affected group. I hope a lot of money goes to programs to help these kids as they grow up. But we may need to re-think what is an older father. Certainly 32 seems quite young now-a days. Alex

Also, what is the big difference between Psychology and Psychiatry? I had planned on becoming a Psychologist but it seems that the money in Psychiatry is much better.

My landlord is crazy and wants money that was not agreed upon. Many people that know her think she is crazy and she mentioned herself once she had mental issues. How do you request that she undergo a psychiatric evaluation if she attempts to sue you?

I researched my phobia, and I think it’s called agoraphobia. I’m not afraid of open spaces, but I am of going out in public. I’m 18, and I want to get a job to earn some money, because my parents don’t want me to be a in the house all day being lazy. I see the news, and I see innocent people getting attacked, or robbed, and I fear that I would be assaulted in the street. How can I over come this feeling?

I may have spelled the psychiatry wrong ??

But, I want to go to schooling for that. But, i want to know the exact difference. I know psychologists make less money and stuff. But, what is the difference with schooling? and just in general? I really need to know.

I love the field of psychiatry and I would like to be a psychiatrist one day. I am wondering what I can do to work in the field now, gain some experience, gain some knowledge, and make some money to pay for college.

Because of my agoraphobia I have been unable to work, but I have been denied Social Security benefits. I would like to get better, but I have no money, no current doctor, and no health insurance. Help!
