Herbal medicine for anxiety and depression?

Does anyone know of any herbal/over the counter medicine for anxiety (with depression)? I know there is St. John’s Wort but because of my birth control I can’t take that. I’ve also read of "Stressezz and True Calm." Do those things actually work? I’d rather stay away from prescription medicine since I don’t have health care coverage right now. Thanks.

Talk Therapy & Anxiety?

I’m an 18 year old senior in high school. I’m current on 150 mg of Zoloft a day. I’ve been recieving therapy for several months, but I really haven’t improved at all. I have problems with anxiety and depression.

The Zoloft has really helped with depression, but my anxiety is still very bad (if not worse then before the medicine). I’ve had a few panic attacks since starting the medicine (one very serious one in the middle of class). I also twitch quite a bit, it could just be that I’m so cold though…

My therapist would not diagnosis me with anything because I think she said she was more of a humanist or something. However she said that in order to treat my anxiety we would probably have to get the depression under control and it is pretty much now.

So I was wondering how effective talk therapy was for helping with anxiety? I’ve always thought I had social anxiety disorder, but my therapist is reluctant to diagnosis anything.
Also what other forms of therapy may be more effective?

Description of my anxiety
Well like most highschool guys I get most anxious around girls, but for me it isn’t uncommon for me to have anxiety or panic attacks.
I usually try to flee from conversations because I never have anything to say and I’m worried for some reason. So it will usually come with faster breathing & heart beat… possibly some twitching.

When just being in public I’m told that I look very uncomfotable and even at time that I look like I’m going to pass out.

Just sitting in class I will have problems twitching (mainly hands shaking and mouth doing something similar to shivering).
yes my depression has pretty much subsidded (and only in about a months period with the first medication, everyone was telling me change it and not even to give the zoloft a chance).

I really don’t feel a need to be diagoisnised with a specific disorder, I just feel my anxiety symptoms best first social anxiety disorder for best reference as to what my problems are like and what therapy would be useful in treating it.

I’ve heard a lot about CBT for treating anxiety and I think my therapist may use some.
I don’t see where you got the impression that the therapist does not listen to me. Just because she won’t diagonis me with some medical term doesn’t really mean anything to me. It won’t change how I’m feeling or the symptoms I’m experiencing and it would not change her method.

Isn’t it better to form the therapy to the individual patient instead of just switching because of something like that?

What does Klonopin and mood swings mean?

I have been taking .5mg of klonopin 3x a day, most of the time i’m fine but sometimes i get really crazy manic depressive mood swings (not normal for me). The medicine has really helped so i dont want to talk to my doc about it because she might take me off of them. Are these normal? Is it a sign of a more serious problem?

I’ve already tried Valerian root, Melissa, passionflower, L-theanine and kava kava but non really showed any real result beside the placebo effect really and I’ve heard bout St John’s wort but i heard it can take about a month for it to start taking effect and some people say it doesn’t work at all just like the others. So do anyone know a nonprescription medicine for social anxiety that really works effectively?

What would they do? I heard that if it’s really bad they give u calming medicine in an IV, but what if you’re pregnant? What do they do in general when someone comes to the ER with a severe panic attack?

Whats up with my anxiety medicine?

I have bad anxiety and i been put on celexa and xanax. The problem is I am usually outgoing and happy and full of energy (and loving my sex life), But now I am nothing. I do nothing, I have no energy at all. I am tired all the time, i feel lazy. My sex life sucks and that’s not good, my poor boyfriend thinks its him, and clearly its not. Do i ask my doctor for new medicine?

Bipolar…?

My mom is bipolar, its a very mild case. Her symptoms/episodes come and go every 2-3 years. Im starting to see symptoms and she’s acting weird but its not fully developed yet. She hasnt been sleeping very much lately and i know this is adding stress. She also does not take her medicine. How can i stop this episode before it begins? Do you think me giving her medicine and some sleeping pills might help? What should i do, im only 15 and I am very scared, Please help me.

Can anxiety be caused single handedly by chemical imbalance like social anxiety disorder or generalized anxiety disorder. And does medication cure the anxiety if its singely caused by this? Do you have to keep taking the medicine or if you take it for like a month and withdraw from it willl the chemical imbalance occur again?

panic disorder?

i have a panic disorder, im scared to take medicine cause i took some meds that made me have anxiety as soon as i took it. if i take xanax that the dr gave me will that make me have anxiety or will it make it stop? help please…………………………

I have very bad anxiety and I have had it since about 5th grade, and I am only 16 now. I cannot seem to pinpoint exactly why I have it. I go to therapy, which lets me talk about my problems, but they love prescribing you medicines, and while they sometimes help, they also make you feel extremely weird. I just wanted to know if anyone else found something that works for them besides medicine. It would be greatly appreciated to hear anyones thoughts on this subject. (:
Thankks.

i take depakote and lamictal on a daily basis for epilepsy, and i also have generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and i was wondering what anxiety medicine is best to take with my anti-epileptic meds with the least side effects?

Or do you need to take an antidepressant and thyroid medicine?

how many of you have been put on anxiety medication for a short period of time…then were taken OFF the medication at some point and are now medication AND anxiety free?

what was your original diagnosis…what kind of medication were you put on and how long were you on the medicine? any complications coming off the meds?

BuSpar, Anti-Anxiety Medicine: Does it work?!?

I definitely know I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder. & it is driving me absolutely crazy. My mind won’t stop, no matter what I do. I try meditating and stuff, but nothing seems to work. I can’t stop thinking about one thing over and over again, even if I come to a conclusion about it (does that make sense?) and I just want to be able to live in the moment & live my life! I want to try BuSpar, an Anti-Anxiety medicine. I’m going to talk to my doctor about this soon but I’m just wondering if any of you are on it, and does it work? Thanks alot!
