I’ve read numerous articles claiming that the effectiveness of anti-depressants is vastly overstated, but what about for anti-anxiety medication? Personally, I think I could manage my depression enough to survive in the world, but my anxiety renders me dysfunctional. I have no idea how to cure social anxiety disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. People have told me that cognitive therapy works, but I’ve been to a few psychologists and none of them were helpful. Neither has exposure therapy been the least bit helpful. In fact, the more I’ve exposed myself to the world over the years the worse things have become.

I am currectly taking anti-depressants because I did suffer from depression and anxiety. I dont suffer that much from depression anymore, well I do, but its my anxiety that mainly brings it on. My anxiety has gotten ridiculously out of control and my depression has diminished. As in most anxiety ridden patients I know I have very very bad anxiety yet I cant help it. I would like to switch from anti-depressants to anti-anxiety meds but I am curious if anyone knows the difference between the two….as in how does it change your mood, will I feel like I am in a daze ( I took Celexa (anti-depressant) before and I stopped taking it because it made me too relaxed, I wound up paying bills late and being lazy a lot of the time, but I was in a better mood) I am now on Zoloft, low dosage. I would really appreciate some input on this if you suffer from bad anxiety.

Im having a terrible time with panic attacks and am really against medication like anti depressants, after reading so many horrible side effects. I have xanax but only want to take it if absolutely necessary. I also started seeing an acupuncturist. just wondering if anyone did hypnotherapy or any other more natural thing for anxiety/panic attacks

I’m sure the best answer will come from a physician, but I would like to get feedback from women who have been on anti-depressants such as Lexapro if they were able to take birth control at the same time, and if there were any side effects?

Has anyone had a positive experience with any anti-anxiety drug (not anti-depressants)?
My main question and concern really is does it increase your weight? (Ex: Ativan)

I don’t plan on using them all the time
just when necessary
(I get very edgy during pms or when I have to take long car or plane trips)

Hi!
I have been going to a neuro. for a while now, and finally decided since nothing seems to be "physically" wrong with me maybe its sneaky depression/anxiety and stress… So I will be taking Celexa .. Has anyone ever had unexplained headaches you or anyone you know of that turned out to be a depression/stress/anxiety thing vs: actually being a physical problem? Did it work for you or this person?
I don’t FEEL depressed but I do have some signs, sleeping to much, not being interested in things I used to be, shying away from people and being very uncomfortable in group situations with more than 2-3 people I have never met before. The main problem is the headaches though, I have them every single day, for 2 years running.
My ENT thinks I have TMJ and its causing the headaches, I think I might have TMJ and the headaches are there but getting stressed about them and having them all the time is making them worse. So I will see an orthodontic specialist when that insurance kicks in but Im going to try the Celexa for the time being.
Any thoughts please? I am really not for " anti-depressants " but its just becoming to much and I want all of it to stop, the headaches, wanting to sleep all the time etc. Thanks so much!
It was Celexa or Topomax I took the lesser of the evils :0) … anyhow thanks so far.

I think I have some imbalance in my brain. If I take anti- depressants or seratonin and I didn’t really need them could it hurt me?

I’m only on 50mg and so far it’s helping me to sleep. Is it easier to come off this than other anti-depressants?

I am suffereing from severe panic attacks since my son was born in March. I am going to the Dr. this week but am terrified that I am going to have to choose between my sanity and breastfeeding my son. Does anyone know of an anti-anxiety medication that is as effective as Xanax that is safe for a nursing mother? I have heard anti-depressants are used to treat panic/anxiety disorder, too, but I am not depressed – and am afraid of becoming dependant on the medication. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Should I seek panic therapy to stop my panic attacks? I’ve been on meds (Celexa) for a while to stop my panic attacks but I heard that those medicines were for anti-depressants instead of treating panic attacks. If anyone knows please tell, thanks.

Also, are there any studies that suggest that anti-depressants can actually cause MS?

I have severe anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder, and it is making it very hard for me to function in my everyday life. Since I am a teenager, I’m at a point where it’s dangerous to take medication like anti-depressants and anti-anxiety (since your brain changing so much), so my parents don’t really want me on those kinds of drugs.
But I’m having a very hard time controlling my OCD and anxiety, so I really need an alternative solution that doesn’t involve such strong medications.
I really need help, I’ve had my OCD since third grade and it has become extremely severe since I never told anyone until last year. And my anxiety is so extreme that I have done really weird things (like cutting my socks and other strange things) and it is disturbing to my whole family.
Thanks in advance to anyone that answers.
