I have generalized anxiety disorder and have pretty bad social anxiety as well (ha, as well as post traumatic stress) so I know a little bit about coping.
Medication, especially in the short term, is not always the most helpful thing. I took cymbalta for a while and for the first week, as with most anti-anxiety drugs, it makes your anxiety worse before it gets better (which for some people, is too much to handle). For me the best thing has been going to counseling. For someone with anxiety, it’s hard to talk about what exactly is going on but going to therapy helps you understand for yourself and learn methods of coping.
So yes, I’ve been on medication, but I think the best route is a combination of therapy and medication. For me, the therapy helped more than the medication. You can’t get any sort of anti-anxiety medication that actually works without a prescriptions. When it comes to mental health, they’re cautious about medication because sometimes it can make a person’s situation worse.
no i think its the doctor, but try st johns wort, they use it in america more than prozac.
The best answer is probably not drugs of some kind as they can deal with the symptoms rather than the root cause. The main thing that can help is some kind of therapy, according to the studies. Shyness/social anxiety therapy is meant to work well on-line as well as face to face according to a study from the University of New South Wales in Australia,.
