I have social anxiety and I think medicine is the only way to help me, but I still am not sure if it is. Is getting medicine for my social anxiety the way to go?? If yes, is the medicine expensive??

Depending on how severe you have this, an anti-depressant may be the way to go. Some of them are used for many reasons. Ask your doctor, I do know Paxil is one of them. I would recommend you stay away from tranquilizers of any type as they are addictive and the crash can be severe. The one action you could take is therapy and find out the reasons behind how you feel. Many people don’t end up social butterflies even after all this and the reason is, it is actually not their personality. They are trying to make themselves do and be something that is just not in their genetic make-up. For whatever the reasons you wish to change, you may find out that you will have to set your course for who you are right now. These days all medicines are expensive. You may want to visit a homoeopathic store as well. There are natural herbs and self help info that may help you with this too. Take care and good mental health
Actually I would recommend cognitive behavioral therapy before I’d suggest medicine.
Social anxiety, though it might not feel like it, is easily controlled without drugs.
Sometimes the therapist will prescribe small tranquilizer type meds until you become responsive to the therapy. The therapy is expensive, the drugs not so much.
I had social anxiety for years, along with other problems including depression. I just got fed up with not having friends, so I forced myself to be around people. It’s very uncomfortable at first (stuttering, trouble speaking your thoughts out loud, aversion, heart palpitations, anxiety, feeling of panic), but it gets easier as time goes by. I don’t know any way to make it easy.
If you have panic attacks, it may be safer to have medicine for that. But if it’s just really hard for you and makes you have high anxiety, you may be able to force yourself to change. It worked for me!
It took a few years, but my social anxiety is nearly gone. It really helped me to have roommates, too.
I have no idea about the medicine, as I couldn’t afford to see a doctor at the time.
