Is eczema caused by stress, anxiety, or depression?
I have never had skin problems until earlier this year. I turned 19 and suddenly in between my inner elbows, and along my forearms and wrists I had a very itchy rash. There were large circles of it and it became very irritated and would spread. I tried otc rash creams but it just would not go away! It lasted for about 2-3 months and finally went away. During this time I was experiencing extreme stress and depression. I heard somewhere that some peoples personality types or their thoughts can contribute to outbreaks of eczema. Does anyone know this to be true or happen to them?

eczema is not caused by stress, anxiety or depression it is inherited but if you have eczema stress, anxiety or depression can cause it to more severe
No, eczema is inherited, you get it when you are born and you never get rid of it, it can go dormant, but it is always there. my son has it. it is born to children of parents (one or both) with asthma or eczema themselves. Just keep yourself moisturized, Moisturel is excellent, tho pricey.
Not sure, but I have the same problem and it also gets worse with stress!!
ya, stress makes it act up. go to your doctor and get an over the counter ointment.
stress can cause breakouts but won’t be the reason why you have it.
Eczema is not curable but treatable. my ex girl had to maintain with creams that was prescribed to her to control the breakouts.. you should also avoid certain things like dyes in detergents or certain materials that irratate your skin… there are MANY different reasons that your breakouts can occur including puberty.
I would go to your doctor for tests to be done to ensure that you know what it is that yyou are going to have to avoid to prevent looking like an alligator
What is an eczema ‘flare-up’?
By nature, eczema symptoms come and go. At times, symptoms can be more severe, or the rash and itching can completely disappear for a long period. However, when symptoms suddenly reappear or become worse, it is called a ‘flare-up’. A number of different factors appear to trigger ‘flare-ups’ of eczema.
‘Flare-ups’ happen when your skin comes in contact with irritants like soap, detergents, abrasive clothing (e.g. wool and synthetic fibers), perfume, carpet fibers, or dust. Overheating, excessive sweating, or low humidity can also trigger a ‘flare-up’.
My sister is allergic to the snaps in her pants
it could be anything that causes your flare ups
she uses ELIDEL works like a champ
Extremely pricey and you can only get it by perscription only

Eczema is an inherited conidition, but when you are going thru a stressful period in your life it drfinitely gets worse & flares up more.
I have had eczema all my life and I heard it was caused by stress, anxiety, and depression too. But in my experience it comes and goes based more on wheather extremes especially humidity changes, either very low humidity or very high. Summer and Winter basically. Not scratching it and keeping it moisturized helps me the most. If you use steroid cremes, make sure to take a two day break out of every seven. Not good to use the steroid cremes all the time. Don’t worry about your thoughts.
