if you use illicit drugs that flood your system with seratonin?

and as a result dont suffer depression does that mean without using them you would be a hyper or happier person?
(i dont use drugs, i just finished reading a government info pack. i do know heaps of weekend crusaders tho that seem very happy,even without them) and can excessive alcohol consumption on a regular basis cause depression?

Alcohol is a depressant so yes it can be a factor. If you use illicit drugs that add serotonin then your body will produce less and less of it. This unbalance will force your body to rely on the drug for that relaxation.

Yes and Yes.. serationin at high levels is toxic to the brain. One of the chemical byproducts of it is H2O2 which is better known as hydrogen peroxide.
If I understood your question right then I would say that the drugs are whats making you happy. Seratonin is a feel good chemical in your brain. So without the drugs likely the person would go down in mood.
That said, it is not a good idea for people to rely on illicit drugs to give them that feel good mood.
Alchohol in excess is an depressant.
