If you feel horrible, stop taking the Lexapro and tell your doctor. In my opinion, anything with bad side effects should be stopped immediately.
I take Wellbutrin 300 mg and Zoloft 200 mg for depression. There are no side effects. I take Ativan 2 mg for panic attacks. That’s just like Xanax. You shouldn’t have to take Xanax for side effects. Just change meds. If you keep trying, you will find the right combination to work for you. Good Luck!
anti-depressants take time. months. most people feel worse before they feel better.
Make sure you talk to your doctor about this, immediately.
A lot of drugs for mood disorder affect people differently. Some take a while to be effective. There are always other options.
lexapro is a generic of prolef i would recomend you start on prolef but before you do dont drink the lexapro for 24hrs
lexapro is for anxiety… it actully has no affect on depression
THIS IS A COMMON SIDE EFFECT AT THE ONSET OF TAKING LEXAPRO. At 5mg, your at the bottom dosage– it needs time to take effect and for you to stop having te side effects you’re feeling.
Lexapro is approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder; other indications include social anxiety disorder, panic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder.
Some side effects have been nausea, somnolence, and gastrointestinal side effects. Like other SSRIs (Prozac, Paxil, etc.), it may also cause some cause sexual side and weight gain in certain people. It may also cause dizziness after exercise in children. None of these are dangerous in nature- just annoying.
Lexapro takes between 3-6 weeks to reach therapeutic level- during this time you will have strange sensations. 5mg is a low dose with the intent to slowly titrate up to a therapeutic dose.
Finally, for mild depression, cognitive-behavioral therapy has been shown to be just as effective, if not more, as a treatment. With talking therapy you get no side effects and the benefits of controlling the mental health issues thru your own strength– a real plus in our over-medicated society.
Give it time. 5 mg is a very very small dose. You can build it up in time. It works for me depression and anxiety just fine. You don’t need Xanax, especially if it’s just mild anxiety, or you are going to mess yourself up worse.
With the Lexapro you need to make some major life changes. You need to be a multi-layered attack to your depression. Change your diet. Start an exercise program.
After only three days, your body has not adapted to the medication. Give it a chance and don’t rush to any conclusions. It took a little while for Lexapro to work for me, and now it works great.
any medication that you take will take some time to work and you need to have some patience. However, if it really isn’t having any effects at all, talk to your practitioner and let them know that you’re not seeing any effects, or if you are, what kind of effects you’re having (good or bad).
Some drugs just aren’t right for some people, but doctors prescribe what’s on the market. If you’re not comfortable with it, make sure they know so they can change your prescription to what will work best for you.
Take care.
I don’t think any anti-depressant works that fast so what you’re feeling probably isn’t from the med. Just know that there will be something that will help and you will find it. I know and have been there. I take Zoloft daily and have for several years. It took about a month to 6 weeks to really kick in and Battle the depression. It’s not an easy thing to lick, but you can do it. give this first medication some time, discuss it with the Dr. and don’t give up hope. I was really suicidal after losing my dad while on bad terms with him, but things did get better. Look for a tiny bit of beauty every day- it’s there somewhere -and do not give up. Write me if you want to talk, please.
I had some depression problems due to some medical problems I was having. I felt terrible for almost a month but after that, my pain was gone and I no longer had any "crazy" moments. It also treats anxiety, but it is for depression as well so don’t list to people to tell you otherwise…Major plus with Lexapro, if you have any pain from inflammation, chances are, you will be helped…I stopped all meds after this!
GOOD LUCK!
Why would you even take medication for mild depression and mild anxiety? That sounds kind of odd to me. Therapy has been proven more likely to help than antidepressants when it comes to mild to moderate depression and anxiety.
Antidepressants come with a lot of side effects, trial and error and plenty of bad results and even make things worse. Medications are only really good for when times get desperate. There isn’t a need to be on medication for mild problems, but it’s easier for your doctor to prescribe you a medication than explain to you why therapy is a better option.
Anyways, when I took prozac, I also felt bad within the first week or so. The side effects kick in quickly, but the mood effects usually take a week or two and up to 6 weeks for full effects. If you don’t start feeling better within the first month, tell your doctor you insist on changing medications. You don’t want to go through 6 months of hell being on the wrong medication and another few months of hell healing from that experience.
I was also diagnosed with "mild depression" and the doctor prescribed Lexapro & ordered blood work, which he said was usually done to check thyroid levels. It was discovered that I have hypothyroidism, which I think caused my depression. It took a while to get my thyroid levels where they should be . I no longer take the Lexapro, but they did help with my symptoms.
A note about the therapy comment – been there, done that. In my opinion (and maybe, only mine) it was a waste of time. Also, when I went to the doctor for my depres
My advice would be to take it for at least a couple of weeks and see how you feel then. If you’re not better, then call the doctor. Have you had your thyroid checked?
A note about the therapy comment – been there, done that! In my opionion (and only mine, maybe) it was a waste of time.
Another note – When I went to the doctor ( a male) for my depression, I felt horrible. Couldn’t stop crying, etc . . . He made it sound like all I wanted was a pill to take to "cure" all of my problems for me. I told him that my life was as hectic as it normally was & he said I needed to change my lifestyle, blah, blah, blah. They have this survey for you to fill out . . .whether you’ve thought of suicide, how you feel on a daily basis, whether you’re losing sleep. I think they label everyone "mild" as long as you haven’t contemplated suicide. In my eyes, it WAS serious! Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been there!
no lexapro is for deppression
and anxiety my mom has been
taking it for years….because of her
divorce from my father…..she does at times
take xanax to help her when she gets into a
stressful situation and feels the lexapro isn’t working
