I don't know about anxiety attacks, but claustrophobia will attack only last about 15 to 30 minutes. During that time, the feeling will peak and diminish. "Attacks" are caused by your body creating brain chemical usually created with you are frightened, when you are NOT in danger. After short period of time, your brain will stop producing them as you really aren't in any danger.

The problem with drinking is, it is an addictive substance, and you are using it to self-treat a chemical unbalance and emotional issue. If this isn't a formula that will lead to substance abuse, I don't know what is.... You can easily train yourself to always need alcohol. I definitely don't suggest it.

Better solution may be, when you get an attack, get out of the situation that triggered attack. Walk out of your house, office, mall, etc, and go to an open area. Sit, walk, etc. I bet your feeling will not last long.

Does your family and close friend know about your issue? If they do, take one along with you as a security blanket and see how long it'll last. If a drink or two is helping you that well, your problem isn't that severe. You *could* ask your doctor to give you a medication for it, but they, too are, habbit forming.

No, alc is not a solution! You need to talk to someone you trust and you'll feel better. I used to have them too and I also get an attack now and then. But I'd never drink. It only increases your heart rate.
They can last pretty long, yes.

If brandy works, its probably not a bad idea. But if your attacks are more frequent than twice a day. I'd worry about liver dammage. I'd only do a small shot not to overdo it. But seeing a doctor would really be better idea.

Taking alcohol for panic attacks isn't a really good idea. There is already a chemical imbalance causing the condition and you dint want to have more problems. You can visit your doctor and get some medication which is the best for helping panic attacks.

I panic all the time - stress seems to hang over me... even when there is nothing to be stressed about... Keep an empty crisp packet in your pocket ..and when you feel the dizzyness coming on .. have a buzz into your poke.. and breathe deep breaths... The booze will only go for your liver.. I am down to 2 valium and a Baileys every other night..now.. Good Luck..

Drinking is not going to help, it always comes back after a while. I have had panic attacks that can last all day, I have just learned to talk to someone about what is bothering me or write it down, not drink. That never solves the problem. My doctor has also prescribed xanax so when they get to bad that helps calm me down. I get it more when the stress is getting really bad, or when I was in college, and test were coming up that day! I would talk to your doctor and tell him about it, or talk to a trusting family member who might help you with the problem, don't go for the drinking, that only covers the problem for a few hours.

I have panic disorder, and have probably 2-3 a day...they usually last about 30min to an hour, but I was prescribed Ativan(Generic Is lorazepam)...usually takes care of it in about 5 min...see a doctor, even your primary will usually prescribe this...as far as alcohol goes, if you are using this to combat anxiety you have to worry about longer term effects such as dependance, which will make your anxiety worse.
