Not long. Stress kills.
well I’m 48 yrs old and still here.
I don’t know what to tell you. I have a ‘mental illness’ myself. Schizophrenia. Voices.
I have been to ‘group’ so many hours…, I don’t know you…, but if I did, I would give you a little humor, and say:
It seems like it takes forever. You won’t die from it unless you hurt yourself, or quit eating. You need to see a professional. If you can’t afford to, go to the County Department of Behavioral Health. It could be called Department of Mental Health, though.
You should be able to get services for free if you can’t afford it.
Good Luck. =]
Till the second you pull the trigger.
Anyone who is living with extreme depression feels like they have already died because it is so debilitating. My mom was 93 when she passed and she had this all of her life.
Several decades. Limit "worrying time" to around 45 mns, daily, possibly when you get home, or after your evening meal, but not too close to bedtime) after which, resolve firmly to refuse to worry again on that day: realise and accept that to do otherwise would be counterproductive to your mental health, and enjoyment of life. You will have had your "worry time" for the day, and can just write down any more thoughts that come to mind, and say to yourself: "Well, I’ll just have to worry about that tomorrow, won’t I?". It’s important to regularly monitor, and deal with a negative internal monologue (self talk), or mental process, such as disturbing thoughts, images, impulses, or emotions, by the process of (a): recognising it, and (b): challenging it immediately. Technique For Re-Programming Negative Thoughts: When you notice something negative, such as: "I can’t do this/ am never going to get over this!" or: "Why am I always so pathetic/useless/such a loser?" or even an image, emotion, or a memory; recognise that it is being generated from the negative part of your mind. Having identified and labelled it, visualise a large, red, flashing, "STOP!" sign, and/or possibly a stern faced person wagging an index finger at you in a negative manner, then say to yourself as forcefully as you can, even aloud in a big voice, if alone: "I know this tactic: GO AWAY FOR A WHILE !!!" You may want to use either: "ruse", "ploy", "game", or "trick". In the case of an image, visualise a large "STOP" sign, or your preferred version.
Some people go so far as to keep a wide rubber band in their pocket, then put it around their wrist, when they catch themselves backsliding, stretch and release it, as a method of reprogramming their mind sooner, but I don’t regard it as being strictly necessary. Remember to remove it, afterwards, if you use this method. Try replacing a negative thought with a positive affirmation of your choice, like: "I am a unique individual, with my own set of skills, and good points", or "I may not be perfect, but I’m doing the best I can, right now". Practice one of the relaxation methods in sections 11, 2, 2c, or 2i, daily, and when needed*. Tai Chi, or yoga suits others better. Give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you. There is a version for use in public places, (you can claim to have a headache, as you massage/lightly tap your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: saying it to yourself in your mind). Section 53, *at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris refers: "Even though I sometimes suffer from anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself." Or Google: "neurofeedback; therapists" Herbal remedies, such as chamomile, passionflower, or St. John’s wort, are often effective, but the idea is (as with anxiolytic medication) to use them like water wings, or training wheels on a bicycle, providing initial support, and giving time for other treatments, such as therapy, and relaxation techniques, to take effect. See: NATURAL PRODUCTS; page E, section 2, ezy build; first 2, (then page R, etc.).
You can live a very long life
the rest of your life if you don’t do anything about it. Talk to your doctor.
to tell u da truth it depends on the individual
on how much u wanna get though da hard times
and how much will power u hav to get though da hard times
but to answer ur question directly
it could tak no time at all or it may neva happen
it depends on family history. like…if you have a family history of this sort of thing, but they still lived long, normal lives, then it’ll be the same for you unelss you prematurely end it. i have extreme depression, and have a family history of it, and they passed at early ages due to heart disease. So here’s to hoping for the best for me.
I’ve had it since childhood and I’m still here.
Get yourself a good doctor and get yourself some help.
Anxiety and depression doesn’t kill you.
It does make you wonder why though.
Well, I’ve suffered those things enough to be labelled disabled for the past 17 years & I fully expect to live another 30 years. I’m 55 at the moment.
They just aren’t fatal conditions.
I will admit that 13 years ago I went to what was classed as a war zone in the hope I might be killed. Best thing I ever did. I met folk there who made my feelings look like I’d always been living in paradise & they gave me reasons & hope to live.
Once you’ve got those, anxiety & depression can’t harm you. They still happen, but so what?
Anxiety and depression themselves are not fatal.
There is no cure for either illness, but they are not fatal either.
Complications of prolonged anxiety and certain kinds of depression can shorten life span.
A person does not die due to depression and anxiety. I was living with it myself for about five years and because of the extreme suffering, there were many times when I wished I could have ended my life.
Having these thoughts were telling me to seek help immediately. I made an appointment with a psychiatrist who prescribed anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medications and taught me different methods in dealing with anxiety. There is Behavioral Therapy, in which you learn to recognize and change the thought and behavior patterns leading to anxiety, plus relaxation techniques which includes deep breathing while thinking about pleasant thoughts. It is a proven fact that deep breathing does relax the mind.
I no longer suffer with depression and anxiety and no longer have thoughts of suicide.
If you are going through what I was, I would suggest you seek help from a psychiatrist who can prescribe an anti-depressant which willl help you to get your normal life back.
Having depression and anxiety is a horrific way of living. Please do not put it off as the disorder may become worse.
Hi,
The answer is : Very very long time unless the person kills himself.
Seek help, please,

Hi – there is no need to keep suffering like you are doing.
So many people breathe thru only the upper part of their lungs, and this makes panic and anxiety worse. To see for yourself, lie flat on your back on your bed and place one hand on your tummy. As you breathe, note if your tummy rises and falls with each breath. If it does NOT rise and fall with each breath, then you are not breathing thru the bottom of your lungs, which is incorrect.
Train yourself to breathe so that your hand rises and falls with each breath. As you practice this, over and over, you will be learning correct breathing, which will be beneficial to your entire body. It will also help to stop the panic attacks.
You need to practice this all the time, until it becomes automatic. You can even practice doing this while riding in a car, sitting at a desk, or whatever. Best wishes to you, my dear.
A Famous singer was asking the same question http://suiciderateup.wordpress.com/2009/06/18/rich-fame-women-but-seeking-ways-to-kill-yourself/
If you have anxiety and fear the constant racing heart beat…. yea, you will live through it. It can go on for decades without causing any damage. I’m not sure about why you would die from depression in the way I think you mean… If you have depression from anxiety, which makes sense since anxiety is so debilitating at times… All I can say is try not to worry about it and start focusing on figuring out what causes the anxiety and depression. The physical symptoms are just a mask to keep you from taking the necessary steps to finally treating yourself.
You can live a long and prosperous life. People naturally when they are mentally healthy, want to live everyday and feel some sort of joy at least. I went to a mental hospital and started taking meds and went to therapy about a yr ago. I started feeling more sane and positive than i have felt in a long while. You’ll eventually be surprised how simply you can be relieved by going to a doctor to describe exactly how you feel, taking medication for awhile, exercising, getting all the vitamins and nutrients needed for the body, and getting good rest.
