How is Radiation therapy related to nuclear reactions?

I was curious as to how radiation therapy works and how do nuclear reactions occur within it that cure/prevent cancer?

Radiation therapy works when a stream of gamma rays are channeled to a certain spot in the body. the radiation will either kill off the cancerous cells, or it will mutate the cells so the cancer cannot multiply
