How do I get over test anxiety?
I’m a really smart person. I always get higher than a 3.50 on my report cards. The CAHSEE exams are going to be held in a couple of weeks and I’m freaking out. I took the practice exam and passed it, but the fact that this is REAL thing gets me nervous. I always let the pressure get to me on final exams and end up getting a proficient and hardly any advanced scores. To me, proficient isn’t good enough. Anyways, how do I get over test anxiety?

I know how you feel! Have you ever heard of Rescue Remedy? It’s this all natural, homeopathic spray. You can buy it at most vitamin stores, I think. My grandmother gave it to me after I had a panic attack about my finals, and it worked great for me.
If you have a 3.5 GPA, then you have nothing to worry about with the CAHSEE. It tests to see if you have attained basic mastery of the average 10th grader. I think perhaps you’re putting too much emphasis on any one test. When that happens, a part of your nervous system responsible for keeping you safe in times of danger gets activated (the sympathetic division). Unfortunately, while it will make you better at running away or fighting off the danger, it also re-routes blood from your higher reasoning centers, making it harder for you to recall information and make logical conclusions. A mental trick that can help with that is to think of tests as games. With a game, yes you want to get a high score, but you don’t beat yourself up if you happen to score low because you know you’ll do better the next time. Plus, games are fun, they’re a chance to pit your skill against a challenge, an opportunity for you to figure out strategies around your opponent. Try it on the next quiz or test you take, imagine in your head that it’s some kind of quiz that you’re playing online like a Trivial Pursuit or Jeopardy game. Hopefully it’ll help
