How can an eating disorder effect fertility?

So, I’ve had an eating disorder for awhile, and i started to notice that my period only lasts for a day or a day and a half now. (I’m trying to get help for my eating disorder, so dont yell at me about that.)
But I’m wondering, if I stop having my period, am I never going to get it back?
How could this effect my chances of having children?
Please help.

If your body is starved to the point that every calorie is needed for basic survival, your body tends to shut down non-critical functions like reproduction. (A body that starved would have a hard time building a healthy baby anyway.)
If an eating disorder is the only issue, it should go back to normal when you regain a healthy weight. Best wishes on achieving that soon.
Your body fat index needs to stay over 10% in order to have a menstrual cycle, and over 15% to stay regular. That’s your body’s way of making sure you don’t get pregnant when you don’t have the resources to carry a baby. It thinks there’s a food shortage right now. Your period will normalize when you work out your eating disorder, and it will not affect your chances of having children.
First well done for admitting you have a problem and dealing with it. Because you are not taking in enough food to support a baby in your body you do not ovulate properly and your body tries to keep anmenstruationon to a minimum. As you put on more weight you should notice that your periods get back to normal. I do not think it should affect your chances of having children but it depends on you maintaining a healthy weight
From grade 6 to 4 years ago I was anorexic ( im recovered now) i was so sick my parents were told to say goodbye to me. I was told i wouldn’t be able to have kids but i have a beautiful baby boy eating disorders can stop you from having children as well as the complications you have years later like osteoporosis, stomache cramps teeth problems ect and no i never vomited! It depends on your body and the damage done i had to be a healthy weight for yrs before i got pregnant.
you need to get help so that you can reverse any damage now or stop damage happening. I am glad youre getting help its worth it to be better it can be tought at times but you can get better and live a happy life. Your ed will never go away 100% but you learn to rise above those negative thoughts ect to make better choices in life and you will get there. email me if you need support
