Has anyone tried zoloft while breastfeeding to relieve anxiety? Has it worked? Any side effects for baby?

I have an appointment with a psychiatrist tomorrow and I know that he may recommend zoloft for the treatment of my anxiety because it is supposedly the safest to use while breastfeeding. I am still Anxious about it because I dont want to harm my baby in any way. Does anyone have experience with this?

I am currently taking Zoloft and have been since my baby was a week old. He’ll be ten weeks old on Tuesday, and I haven’t noticed any ill effects for him. They told me it might make him a little irritable, but I didn’t see any change. As for myself, I’d have come unglued without it. I cried all day every day for the first week until I got on it. I mean, I knew baby blues would be bad, but this was beyond that.
The doctor and pharmacist both told me that the best thing to do however, was to take it immediately after I nursed so that it would have that much longer to break down in my system before I nursed again.
I’ve taken Zoloft while breastfeeding three of my children and even taken it through two pregnancies. All the children have been *fine*… I’ve never noticed a single side effect in them.
ETA: Like other meds… some women it does wonders for and others need to try different meds. For me… it has done the job very well.
I have never heard *anything* about Zoloft being linked to homocides.
Hope that helps!
i took it for a few weeks but it made me feel sick. it didn’t seem to have any effect on my son. i figured out that my emotional issues were due to a hormonal imbalance caused by my mirena IUD so i’d certainly reccommend making sure that you really need zoloft & your problems aren’t caused by something else. i heard a lot of horror stories about zoloft on the radio after i quit taking it (women killing their families & themselves)
ggod luck. i hope you feel better : )
