I have been taking flax seed oil (high in omega 3 & omega 6 fatty acids) to help with my depression & it does work. With no side effects. Go for it!

I've also read research papers that claim that pharmacological doses of saffron are as effective as Prozac in treating depression, with none of the side-effects. Unfortunately saffron is very expensive.

Good Luck!

My wife suffers from depression has for many years... Don't let the vitamin store take your money.. Not saying vitamins and herbs are not good, they are just not a remedy... At best a good multi vita. will help the tired feeling you experience but that is about it... look at the B vitamins for a little energy boost... Good Luck

Omega 3 is great for you regardless of your affect. Its a good anti-inflammatory & good for heart health. Id' steer clear of Rescue Remedy. Based on the website I saw it looks like someone mowed a garden to create this product. In the US at least, herbal products are completely unregulated. Safety & effectiveness need not be proven. Anything can be placed on the market.

Hypericum (tutsan, St. John's wort) tea or extract could help. It is proven that hypericum is very efficient in helping the wound healing, general recover and has a significant anti-depressive effect. But it is not a remedy, of course. You should combine it with a psychotherapy and don't give up your medecines by yourself, until your doctor decides it.

I take St. John's Wort ("johnnywort") along with my Zoloft and Tegretol. Johnnywort helps me with my mood swings, especially in the winter, when they are at their worst. I am of the opinion that herbal treatments are only "supplements" to the prescribed treatment. Not to be taken by itself if one is on anti-deps. Talk to Doc if you are contemplating getting off prescriptions as such actions can be very serious consequences.
