Has anyone taken Lexapro for anxiety, if so how did it work?

I have just presctibed Lexapro for anxiety attacks, and wanted to know if there were any side effects that I should be aware of.

I had a friend who was on it for a couple of years. It did help control her depression issues but she found herself becoming numb to any emotions at all…..never cried in sad movies, never became angry at things that would normally upset her and never felt really upbeat. She finally opted to stop taking it because she said she didn’t like not being able to feel her emotions.
But, for serious depression issues, it might be a good solution just to get you through a rough patch.

My daughter took it for a year or so and eventually was able to get off of it. As for side effects, each person is different. Read your label and then you will be able to tell if the side effects are worth it or not. Good luck. You are smart to be getting help.
I havent taken Lexapro, but i work for a doctor who prescribes it frequently. I havent heard of any complaints from my patients. Best advice, try it and if you have any complications, like nausea, diarrhea or constipation. Basically, anything that is out of the ordinary for you, tell your doctor right away.
Lexapro is very commonly prescribed now. There are some side effects, like with all medication, especially antidepressants. But nothing horrible, maybe sleeplessness or no sex drive. Most symptoms can be short term or your dose can be changed to help. When you first start taking it, everyones symptoms are different, some people feel more nervous for a couple weeks before the medicine kicks in, it takes about 3 weeks for the medication to Begin working. Some people feel great right away, just mention any new feelings to your doc. You can ask to start on a very low dose and work up to a normal dose to avoid any early side effects, just ask your doc.
All it does is raise your serotonin level, a neurotransmitter that everyone produces, so that you are slightly calmer, even happier. Which in the long run will help you to stop thinking bad thoughts and causing yourself panic attacks. Your doctor should explain all of this to you.
