Hi Sarah
It might be a waste of time and money, but that’s true of any therapy. I’m a clinical hypnotist and have been for 16 years during which time I treated hundreds of people for depressive illnesses, dozens for bulimia and a few for anorexia. (The problem with anorexia is that part of the illness is believing there’s nothing wrong that wouldn’t be better if everyone just left them alone.) I have seen bulimia sufferers who have had six (in one case) and ten (in another) years’ wall to wall therapy including residential stays and nothing has worked for them. The first took two sessions and the second took three to cure completely. But it doesn’t always work.
The previous respondent was right about your attitude. You have to want what the therapist is trying to do for you or you might make it a waste of time and money. Hypnotism is real. Hypnosis is real, and sometimes (but not always) the results are astonishing.
Best wishes

Sometimes it works, and then there’s narcotherapy. Your attitude has a lot to do with the results.
