Hi,
If the doctor feels that your anxiety is at a severe enough level then normally they do prescribe medication immediately. If they feel that your anxiety is being brought on by, for example, underlying depression, then anti-depressants will be described, and many of these also have an anti-anxiety medication within them. These can take a few weeks to take effect, so if you feel you really do need something immediately, then say so to your doctor. In many cases they will give you a short-term course of anti-anxiety medications that will last until the main tablets kick in.
Hope this helps and good luck.l
In the UK they do. The patient needs to see the doctor though & describe his symptoms.
When necessary, psychiatrists have prescription pads just like your PCP. If your doctor doesn’t give you the prescription that you want, not to worry. There are plenty of doctors out there willing to write prescriptions instead of working the problems out with patients. People want a "magic pill" to make them feel better and there are prescribers out there just as willing to take the easy way out. Even if you are prescribed medication, work at finding out what is causing your anxiety. There are many causes that can be fixed, such as lack of sleep, alcohol or drug use, or even a diet allergy. Don’t just settle for the pill.
Keep a diary write down your thought so you can look objectively at what it is that is making you anxious. Have more faith cast your cares upon God for he cares for you learn to mediate on postive thoughts it really works cognitive behaviour therapy helps get books on it. the overcoming series help, Theirs some great books around. If you live in the uk you can ask for cousellilng which will get down to the root cause of what is making you anxious. Its normally something we are fearful about. For every negative thought think of a postive thought after it to cancel it out. Anxiety drugs take a while to work anyway but you have power over your mind learn to use it. Get some book some knowledge.
Maybe…. have you seen this doctor before? like is he your regular doctor who you have been seeing for a long time or is he a new doctor? If he does prescribe benzos he will probably prescribe them in conjunction with an anti depressant (like Cymbalta) and not just benzos.. or maybe not benzos at all… The Cymbalta (or other anto depressant) works well for anxiety but takes a coupe of weeks to kick in… They are moving away from prescribing benzos… especially if you do not have any history with the doctor….
