Can taking anxiety medication affect job opportunities?
For the past few months, I have gone under major amounts of stress and anxiety. I am considering asking my doctor for a medicine to lessen these symptoms, but I am very concerned that this will affect employment opportunities in the law field upon graduation. (ex: legal assistant, lawyer, judge etc.) Will being proscribed a medication that treat anxiety be seen as a sign of emotional or mental instability? or cost me a good job? This information is key before I decide to speak with my doctor. Thank you.

No it won’t.
Yes this certainly can affect careers. I do not know what sort or exact medications you’re taking but this will show up on a standard drug test. If you’re on something for bi-polar or anti-depressants or prozac it will show up . You should best ask your MD first before applying for a drug screen at employment.
there is no legal or ethical reason for potential employers to even ask about medication you take, so the short answer is no.
if drug screening is a concern, traces of prescription drugs taken as directed are not going to cause you to fail a drug test.
