Since start of longer dark winter days I have been getting very restless legs, slight depression and muscle tenderness and aches at back of legs. Wondered if I had SAD and whether 5HTP could sort it.

How do you know that you have low serotonin? Did you have a blood test for it? No, you didn’t, because there is no blood test.
Try getting tested for hypothyroidism. Thyroid disease is constantly misdiagnosed as mental illness. Depression is a symptom of thyroid disease. Muscle cramps is a symptom of hypothyroidism.
Of course muscle cramps are also a symptom of low potassium, so you could just try eating a banana.
