Best medications for anxiety and panic disorder?
I was diagnosed with panic disorder a few years ago. I started out on Effexor XR. While it was excellent in keeping the anxiety and panic attacks at bay, the side effects were unbearable. My doctor switched me over to Lexapro, which worked at first, but now does nothing for me. I even started taking 20 mg as opposed to the 10 mg I was prescribed. I have an appointment with my doctor next week and I wanted to get a general idea of the best medications out there.

In my case I tried a few until I found the right one. I take Zoloft and it has been great for me. You have to get through the side effects no matter what you take so remember that. Meds are not a "cure", you have work to do as well. So remember that with the meds and you fighting then you will win over the panic.
Good luck at the Dr.
My sister has been on Lexapro for almost a year and it took a little while for it to work, but now she doesn’t know what she would do without it. Talk to your doctor to see what his/her view is, but I know based on the results that I have seen with my sister, that it did work wonders. Hang in there!
First and foremost you need to get mentally strong. To achieve this start practising deep breathing exercises for 15 to thirty minutes each day. Next cultivate some hobbby which will keep you occupied.
You can certainly overcome this by making concerted efforts. Want to know more about one cure guaranteed to provide results. Refer to site mentioned below
I think if you are hopping from one type of medication to another and still don’t see results, then perhaps medication is not the solution that you gonna need.Sure,it could provide some form of relief. But its just temporary, and your problems won’t go away. What you need is a solution that really addresses directly your condition.
And for that, I would recommend behavioural therapy.

Holly,
I was given pills for my panic attacks too but don’t let that be your permanent solution.
For 3 years I had panic attacks and each time I literally thought I was going to die. I didn’t tell anybody about this either. Then, one night, my boyfriend found me hyperventilating in bed and rushed me to the hospital. There, they told me it was a panic attack. They gave me tranquilizers (but I didn’t want to get addicted to sedatives) and the name of a therapist that I really liked. My therapist told me about this program:

He really shouldn’t have told me about this program because it cured my panic attacks and I no longer needed to see him.
I kept my appointments with him anyway because I liked talking to him and he also noticed how much more relaxed I was since the panic attacks stopped.
Anyway, hope this helps. Cheers,
Martha
