Anyone else have bad headaches with Lexapro?

I started taking Lexapro about a week and a half ago, and I continually get bad migraines daily. I called the doctor and she wants me to continue it for the full 3 weeks to see if it helps my mood. My question is, is this a situation for anyone else, and do the headaches eventually go away?

Typically, patients need to be on an antidepressant medication for two to three weeks before they will know how they respond to that medication. Sometimes side effects appear in the initial days or weeks but go away; other times the medication won’t seem to ‘kick in’ until that amount of time passes. Finding the right antidepressant is often like find holding a ring of keys and trying different ones until you unlock the lock. It can be a bit of trial and error, as you cannot predict how an individual patient will respond to a medication until they try it and gets to a certain level in their system.
If your doctor is monitoring you and she knows about your headaches, I’d trust her to allow you to continue with the Lexapro for another week and a half. You might find the headaches go away, or they may be unrelated to the med. Give it another 10 days and see what happens after you complete the trial period.
