Anxiety Attacks?
I’ve had Generalized Anxiety for some time. Recently, I’ve been stressed out about certain things in my life, and I ended up having horrible diarrhea for a week straight (lost 7lbs.!). Now, I have a horrible pain between my shoulder and my neck which feels better if I calm down, but every time I think something may be physically wrong with me, it goes right back to hurting again. Is there any way to take care of this issue without medication? My therapist is NOT good, so I’m changing counselors next week…but for right now, I don’t know what to do. Does anyone know how to stop an anxiety attack in progress? Do these sound like anxiety attacks to you?

best way to help a panic attack is doing something that really relaxes you or just find a way to completely distract yourself. Usually i sit on the floor of the shower with either really hot or cold water pouring down and then turn out all the lights and put a movie on. anything that you can absorb yourself in rather than think about the panic attack. Also try getting xanax, klonopin or valium and take it at the first sign of an attack. Its also good to research panic attacks so that you know what you are to expect, because often times people feel they are going crazy or dying but the knowledge of panic attack symptoms can damper those feelings.
I have genderalized anxiety disorder too. It’s quite a pain. I’ve had throwing up, diarrhea, and losing weight too. So, hun, you’re not alone. I would actually reccomend medication and therapy at the same time. It will probably work for you like it’s for me. I’m lucky because I have a pretty good therapist, but I’m also taking Pacsol, an anxiety medication, at the same time. You cannot get addicted to it, and if your doctor is good, then she in the beginning should prescible you 20 ( unsure of measurement type), but not go past 40. Yeah, seriously it does suck, but you can get past it.
A book recommendation, best anxiety book in world and actually works… "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" By Dale Carnegie. READ IT! Seriously, it’s a great book and really will help. Will be the most important book for solving your problem and that’s a promise.
I’m sorry about the counsler situation, but I hope you get a good one this time.
Also, this is not anxiety attacks. These are where you faint or go in a spell from all the anxiety. You are just experiancing many of the same symptoms I experianced from all the anxiety. Examples: body aches, stomachaces, light headed, diarrhea, etc.
Another thing that helps elliminate anxiety, believe it or not, is owning a dog. I’m serious. My parents won’t let me, but it’s like having a permanent friend, I assume.
Also, meditate
Anyway, take these suggestions, and email me sometime!
Best wishes
well i have never had an anxiety attack but my sister has and the ambulance came she didnt have to go to the hospital because the got her to calm down they gave her water and layed her down and told her to breathe threw her nose and out her mouth and then they put a cold wet rag on her head
Well, you poor thing! You’ve probably had that anxiety tightening your muscles to the point where it’s pulled your back out.
Do you have a chiropractor or know where one is? You might ask about this pain between the shoulders. Hard to say what it is really although I’ve had that sort of pain SO BAD, and the chiropractor can fix it pretty quickly.
I can’t say about the anxiety attacks – I’ve heard there’s good drugs these days… so is that not true? Don’t the drugs help? If they don’t (and I’ve always thought drugs were nonsense), you’re going to gradually find the reason for these anxiety attacks. That means working with somebody you can trust.
Your thinking patterns can minimize or exaggerate your symptoms and your fears.
You can control the focus of your attention. If you direct it to something pleasant and consoling, you will attract and experience those feelings. If you focus on the anxiety, you just get more of it, even more intensely sometimes.
So find yourself a particular book that you recall with pleasant memories and start reading, now.
well, if you want to stop an anxiety attack in progress, I would say to try and calm down, if you are home, turn off the tv, unplug the phone for a few minutes, and take an antihistimine, like benedryl. Hydroxyzine is the main ingredient in antihistamines, and it is used for anxiety. Check this out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroxyzine
and this:
http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-7681-Hydroxyzine+HCl+Oral.aspx?drugid=7681&drugname=Hydroxyzine+HCl+Oral
best of all, it is not addictive.
you just have to calm down and think about sumthin else like somthin peacful stress = bad do some yoga or meditation
Symptoms of an anxiety attack include:
Shortness of breath
Palpitations or pounding heart
Chest pain or discomfort
Trembling or shaking
Dizziness
Nausea or stomach distress
Fear of losing control or going crazy
Hot or cold flashes
If you’ve experienced intense anxiety or worry for six months or more, you may be suffering from an anxiety disorder. Worry that interferes with your work, relationships, and activities is also a red flag that you’ve crossed from normal worrying into the territory of anxiety disorders. If your anxiety and fears have become so great that they are causing extreme distress or disrupting your daily routine, it is important to seek out help.
First, you should consult with a doctor to rule out possible medical conditions. Some medications or diseases create anxiety-like symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, dizziness, nausea, and nervousness. A change in medication or the correct diagnosis of a medical illness may take care of your anxiety problem. Your doctor will give you a physical examination and may also run some laboratory tests.

This has helped me tremendously and I hope it helps you readers
as well.
Hi, my name is Derek J. Soto, you can google me if you want to
find out more about me. I suffered with Anxiety and OCD for
many years. Over these years I have learned a few things that have
helped me stop these things in my life. I remember when I would go
to public places and I would see all these people moving around, I
would hear all the sounds and this combined with my fear of what
might happen to me because my heart was racing and I was feeling
light headed. I literally thought that there was something wrong with
me physically and I felt that I would pass out every time I went
anywhere public. I found out that my fear was actually causing
these symptoms. I found out that there was no way that I could
stop my anxiety and OCD until I actually got rid of this fear. I was
told that without fear, excessive unhealthy anxiety cannot exist.
I then found out that my OCD was caused by anxiety, so I knew
I had to get rid of the anxiety and the OCD would go away. Here
are some of the things that I did:
1.) I realized that I had to accept whatever it is that I’m afraid of.
I was afraid that i was going to pass out when I was in public, so
what I would do is go in public and when I felt like I was going to
pass out, I said to myself, “I don’t care if I pass out because they’ll
just call an ambulance and I’ll be taken care of.” For some reason
I never passed out and by repeating this, my brain stopped
believing that I would pass out when I was out in public and so I
no longer feared that this would happen.
2.) I had to learn that anxiety is good and it is there to protect us,
so when I started to feel anxiety come on, I told myself, “This is a
good thing, because I know that my protection mechanism that
keeps me safe is working.” I knew then that i didn’t have to be
afraid of it anymore.
3.) I then started to introduce new thoughts into my mind when
I was having an anxiety attack. So if I was sitting there thinking
about passing out, once I realized that I was focusing on that,
I said, “Stop!” and I asked myself, “What would I rather think
about?” Then I would think about things that made me happy,
which was much more fun for me!
I know these are very simple tactics, but try them, try introducing
new thoughts because you cannot control what thoughts pop
into your head. See how your emotional state will change once
you start thinking about the beach, or your spouse and the good
times you’ve had, etc.
This has done wonders for me and I hope it helps you too!
Yours for mental freedom,
Derek J. Soto
